The 7 steps of an estimate explained

What does this do?

A quick map of what each numbered step in the sidebar is for, so you know where to go when something needs changing.

How to use it

  1. 1 · Customer Details: who the job is for, their contact details and the property address. The quote reference is allocated here.
  2. 2 · Add Rooms: the rooms and stairs to be floored. Type the measurements, speak them, or let PlanIt read a sketch, photo or PDF plan.
  3. 3 · Products & Pricing: the product for each flooring type, roll width, waste, your cost and selling rates, underlay, gripper and any floor preparation.
  4. 4 · Calculate Quote: press ▶ Calculate All Rooms and the roll optimiser picks the best roll width with the least waste, then builds the cutting plan and fitter sheet.
  5. 5 · Customer Quote: the quote the customer sees. Choose a 📄 Detailed Quote or a 📝 Manual Quote with one agreed price, and set the deposit.
  6. 6 · Profit Check: for your eyes only. Selling price, cost, gross profit and margin.
  7. 7 · Send Quote: send by email, WhatsApp, PDF or the customer portal, or request a deposit. The customer can accept online.

Step 1 records who the job is for and where it is. These details flow straight into the quote, the PDF, the customer email and the CRM record, and they save as you type.

Add a room by typing its measurements

Every estimate is built from rooms. Type a room's name, length and width, choose its flooring type and add it to the project. The optimiser, cutting plan and quote all come from this list.

Set the product and prices for each flooring type

Step 3 is where the job gets its money. Every flooring type used on the job has a tab with the product name, your cost, the customer price and the fitting rates. The quote, cutting plan and profit check all read from here.

Calculate the job and find the best roll width

Calculate All Rooms runs the roll optimiser over every room on the job. It tries each roll width, picks the one with the least waste, and produces the cut list, the cutting plan and the fitter sheet in one go.

Give the customer a detailed quote

The Detailed Quote is the customer-facing document built from your estimate: each room with its product and price, then fitting, underlay, floor preparation, uplift and accessories, the net total, VAT and the total. If a deposit is on, it shows the deposit and the balance due on completion.

Customer Quotes

Send a quote by email

Send Email posts the quote to the customer directly from PlanIt with the branded PDF attached and a secure link to view and accept. No mail app needed, and replies come back to your shop's email address.
