Add a room by typing its measurements

What does this do?

Every estimate is built from rooms. Type a room's name, length and width, choose its flooring type and add it to the project. The optimiser, cutting plan and quote all come from this list.

How to use it

  1. Open Estimating, press New Estimate and go to step 2 · Add Rooms.
  2. In the Add Room card, type the Room Name (for example Lounge or Bedroom 1).
  3. Enter the Length and Width. Metres by default; if your account is set to imperial you can type 12' 6" or 12ft 6in.
  4. Choose the Shape (Rectangle is the default) and the Flooring Type.
  5. Set Fitting Direction to Along Length or Along Width if it matters for this room.
  6. Press ➕ Add Room to Project. The room appears in Project Rooms on the right with its area worked out.
  7. Repeat for every room, then press Next: Products & Pricing ▶.

The Shape box tells PlanIt how the room is laid out so the roll optimiser can plan the cuts. Most rooms are rectangles; L-shapes take a cut-out so the missing corner is not charged for or cut.

Choose the flooring type for a room

Each room has a flooring type. It decides which product and prices from Products & Pricing the room uses, whether it is planned from a roll or sold in packs, and how it is grouped on the quote.

Set pile direction, pattern repeat, waste, doors and joins on a room

Under the size fields are the options that shape how a room is cut: which way the pile runs, any pattern repeat, extra waste, how many doors it has, whether joins are allowed and whether offcuts can be used. They feed the roll optimiser and the gripper calculation.

Switch between metric and imperial

Choose how room sizes and areas are shown throughout PlanIt. This changes the display only: every measurement is stored in metric, the optimiser keeps working in metric, and existing estimates are never altered.

Calculate All Rooms runs the roll optimiser over every room on the job. It tries each roll width, picks the one with the least waste, and produces the cut list, the cutting plan and the fitter sheet in one go.

Hide measurements on a quote

Hiding measurements takes the dimensions, square metres and per-m² rates off the customer's quote so each room shows by name and price only. Set it for one quote, or make it the default for every new quote. Your cutting plan, fitter sheet and profit check keep the real figures.
