Choose the flooring type for a room

What does this do?

Each room has a flooring type. It decides which product and prices from Products & Pricing the room uses, whether it is planned from a roll or sold in packs, and how it is grouped on the quote.

How to use it

  1. On 2 · Add Rooms, choose a Flooring Type for the room: Carpet, Sheet Vinyl, Safety Flooring, Sheet LVT, Laminate, Carpet Tiles, LVT, Matting or Wood.
  2. Press ➕ Add Room to Project.
  3. To change the type of a room already added, use the Flooring Type dropdown on its card in Project Rooms.
  4. Set the product and prices for each type you have used on step 3 · Products & Pricing. Each type has its own tab.

Every estimate is built from rooms. Type a room's name, length and width, choose its flooring type and add it to the project. The optimiser, cutting plan and quote all come from this list.

Step 3 is where the job gets its money. Every flooring type used on the job has a tab with the product name, your cost, the customer price and the fitting rates. The quote, cutting plan and profit check all read from here.

Products & Pricing

Choose the roll width (auto or forced)

Roll goods (carpet, sheet vinyl, safety flooring and sheet LVT) are planned from a roll. By default PlanIt tries every width and picks the one with least waste. If the product only comes in one width, force it so the plan matches what you can actually buy.

Two carpets (or two vinyls) on one job

One job can have more than one product of the same type, for example a Saxony in the lounge and a twist on the stairs. Each product has its own price, fitting rate, waste and underlay, is planned on its own roll, and is named on the quote, cutting plan and fitter sheet.

Switch to Commercial Mode for tenders

Commercial Mode adds Tenders to the sidebar so you can price several options for one contract. It sits alongside normal residential estimating and switching back never deletes anything.

Commercial Tenders & Bills of Quantities

Add stairs (steps, winders and landings)

Add Stairs turns the room form into a stair run. Give it the number of steps and the size of each step and PlanIt works out the carpet needed, including winders, a mid-landing and a bullnose bottom step.
