Add stairs (steps, winders and landings)

What does this do?

Add Stairs turns the room form into a stair run. Give it the number of steps and the size of each step and PlanIt works out the carpet needed, including winders, a mid-landing and a bullnose bottom step.

How to use it

  1. On 2 · Add Rooms, press Add Stairs. The form switches to a Stair Run and names it Stairs (change the name if you like).
  2. Enter the No. of Steps (straight steps only), then the Going (tread depth), Rise (step height) and Nose (overhang). Sensible defaults are already filled in.
  3. Enter the Tread Width and choose the Cut Method: Waterfall (one continuous cut) or Cap & Band (separate tread/riser).
  4. Turn on Bullnose first step if the bottom step is rounded. It is noted on the fitter sheet.
  5. Turn on Mid-landing for a half landing and enter the Landing depth and Steps before landing.
  6. Turn on Winder steps for a turn, enter the No. of winders and choose Width method: Full width (conservative) or Average width (measured), then type the Avg. width.
  7. Check the preview under the fields, then press ➕ Add Room to Project.

Every estimate is built from rooms. Type a room's name, length and width, choose its flooring type and add it to the project. The optimiser, cutting plan and quote all come from this list.

Choose a room shape (L-shape, corridor, landing, irregular)

The Shape box tells PlanIt how the room is laid out so the roll optimiser can plan the cuts. Most rooms are rectangles; L-shapes take a cut-out so the missing corner is not charged for or cut.

Add gripper rod and work out how much you need

Gripper is priced per metre and can be worked out from the rooms for you. PlanIt measures the perimeter of each carpet and matting room, takes off the doorways, and counts two strips per step on stairs.

The Fitter Sheet is a print-ready page for the person laying the floor: the customer's address, the roll width and metres, a Material Summary, the roll plan, the Cut Sequence, any Sub-floor Preparation, Fitter Instructions and Offcut Notes. Print it, save it as a PDF, or send it with the job.

The cutting plan is the picture of the roll with every cut drawn on it, plus the cut list in the order the fitter should work. It comes straight from Calculate All Rooms, so it always matches the quote.

Paste a list of rooms straight in, one per line, and PlanIt adds them all. Useful for a schedule of rooms from a spreadsheet or a commercial job with dozens of areas.
