Change VAT / tax rate, currency and country

What does this do?

Pick where you trade and PlanIt sets the currency, tax name, tax rate and date and number formats in one go. Every one of those can be overridden if your business needs something different.

How to use it

  1. Open ⚙️ Settings from the sidebar and choose the 🌍 Country & Region tab.
  2. Under Country, search for and pick where you trade. Applied settings shows what PlanIt has set.
  3. To change something, use Overrides: edit the Tax Name or Tax Rate (%).
  4. Not registered for VAT? Untick Charge tax on quotes.
  5. Only if you invoice in another currency, enter the 3-letter code under Currency (for example EUR).
  6. Overrides stay put even if you change country later. Press ↺ Reset to country defaults to hand them back.

Turn VAT on or off and set the rate

VAT Settings control whether VAT is added to the quote and at what rate. Untick it if you are not registered or the work is zero-rated, and the quote shows plain totals with no VAT line.

Set CIS deduction and the VAT reverse charge on a job

For commercial and subcontract work, tell PlanIt whether the job is under CIS and whether the VAT domestic reverse charge applies. The quote then states the VAT and the CIS deduction the right way round. Leave it off for ordinary domestic jobs.

Switch between metric and imperial

Choose how room sizes and areas are shown throughout PlanIt. This changes the display only: every measurement is stored in metric, the optimiser keeps working in metric, and existing estimates are never altered.

Add bank details for deposits

Add your business bank details once and PlanIt shows them to the customer on the acceptance screen, together with the deposit amount and a payment reference. UK accounts use a sort code and account number; Irish and other euro-area accounts use an IBAN.

Country & region sets the currency symbol, the tax name and the number formats across the whole till in one go. An Irish shop, for example, gets VAT at Irish rates and prices in EUR. Changing it relabels money; it never converts it.

One switch decides whether VAT is added to this sale. Use it when a sale genuinely carries no VAT; the default rate lives in Settings.
