Turn VAT on or off for a sale

What does this do?

One switch decides whether VAT is added to this sale. Use it when a sale genuinely carries no VAT; the default rate lives in Settings.

How to use it

  1. On Sale / Till, find VAT on the right-hand panel.
  2. Press VAT applied (the default) or No VAT.
  3. With No VAT the VAT row drops to zero and the Gross total updates. The document shows that VAT was not applied.
  4. A manual or quick-sale line has its own VAT rate % (20, 5 or 0) if only one line differs.

Country & region sets the currency symbol, the tax name and the number formats across the whole till in one go. An Irish shop, for example, gets VAT at Irish rates and prices in EUR. Changing it relabels money; it never converts it.

Quick Sale Item puts a one-off line on the sale without adding it to your product list. Handy for an odd item, a sundry or a charge you will not sell again.

VAT Settings control whether VAT is added to the quote and at what rate. Untick it if you are not registered or the work is zero-rated, and the quote shows plain totals with no VAT line.

Two ways to type a line yourself: a manual line for a single priced item, or a job / estimate line that prices a whole job as one figure with a description that prints exactly as typed.
