Take card deposits with Stripe

What does this do?

Connect your own Stripe account and customers can pay the deposit by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay when they accept a quote online. The money goes straight to your Stripe account; PlanIt takes no cut.

How to use it

  1. In your Stripe dashboard go to Developers → API keys and copy your secret key.
  2. In PlanIt open Products & Pricing (step 3) and scroll to Payment & Deposit Settings → Online Payment Setup.
  3. Choose 💳 Card (Stripe) only or 💳+🏦 Both.
  4. Under Stripe card payments, paste the key and press Connect. PlanIt checks it with Stripe and shows ✓ Connected with the last four characters.
  5. Press 💾 Save payment setup.
  6. To stop taking cards, press Disconnect next to the connected key.

Add your business bank details once and PlanIt shows them to the customer on the acceptance screen, together with the deposit amount and a payment reference. UK accounts use a sort code and account number; Irish and other euro-area accounts use an IBAN.

Take a deposit online

Set the deposit once, then PlanIt asks the customer for it on the quote page and by email, and takes it by card through Stripe. Bank transfers can be marked as received by hand.

Every quote has a secure web page where the customer can view it, accept it and pay the deposit by card. Copy the link to send it any way you like, and PlanIt tells you the moment they open, accept or pay.

Request, receive or record a deposit on a job

From the job you can email a deposit request, confirm a bank transfer has arrived, or record the payment on the quote itself so it becomes an invoice showing the amount paid and the balance outstanding.

The Customer payments panel is where customers are told how to pay you. Bank transfer details print on quotes, invoices and statements today; the one-click Stripe connection for card payments is not switched on in the till yet, so the Connect Stripe button is greyed out.

When PlanIt publishes a new version of its terms, you see an Updated Terms & Conditions screen the next time you sign in. Read what changed, agree, and carry on; it takes a few seconds and only happens when the terms actually change.
