Speak a room's measurements

What does this do?

Speak lets you say a room out loud, for example 'Lounge 4.2 by 3.6 carpet', and PlanIt turns it into a room. Handy when you are on your knees with a tape measure.

How to use it

  1. On 2 · Add Rooms, press 🎙️ Speak. The button turns red and shows Listening.
  2. Say the room name, the length, the word 'by', the width, and the flooring type. For example: 'Bedroom 1, 3.4 by 3.2, carpet'.
  3. A 🎙️ Confirm Room box opens showing what was heard, with the Room Name, Flooring Type, Length and Width filled in. Correct anything that is wrong.
  4. Press ✓ Add Room. The room is added to Project Rooms as a rectangle.
  5. If it misheard, press 🎙️ Try Again and say it once more.

Choose the flooring type for a room

Each room has a flooring type. It decides which product and prices from Products & Pricing the room uses, whether it is planned from a roll or sold in packs, and how it is grouped on the quote.

Add stairs (steps, winders and landings)

Add Stairs turns the room form into a stair run. Give it the number of steps and the size of each step and PlanIt works out the carpet needed, including winders, a mid-landing and a bullnose bottom step.

Choose a room shape (L-shape, corridor, landing, irregular)

The Shape box tells PlanIt how the room is laid out so the roll optimiser can plan the cuts. Most rooms are rectangles; L-shapes take a cut-out so the missing corner is not charged for or cut.
