Customer pays the fitter direct (subcontract fitting)

What does this do?

Subcontract Fitting is for jobs where the customer pays the fitter directly. The fitting price still appears on the quote so the customer sees the whole cost, but it stays out of your total, your VAT and the deposit you request.

How to use it

  1. Open Estimating and go to step 3 · Products & Pricing.
  2. Scroll to Fitting Supply and switch on Subcontract Fitting.
  3. Enter the Fitter name (PlanIt remembers fitters you have used before).
  4. Enter the Fitting Price the fitter has quoted. Leave it blank if the fitter is quoting the customer separately.
  5. Go to Customer Quote. Fitting shows as Fitting — payable directly to your fitter, below your total, with no VAT charged by you on it.

VAT Settings control whether VAT is added to the quote and at what rate. Untick it if you are not registered or the work is zero-rated, and the quote shows plain totals with no VAT line.

A deposit on the quote shows the customer what to pay up front and what is left on completion. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount. On a detailed quote it is set in Payment & Deposit Settings; on a manual quote you type it in the manual quote itself.

Set CIS deduction and the VAT reverse charge on a job

For commercial and subcontract work, tell PlanIt whether the job is under CIS and whether the VAT domestic reverse charge applies. The quote then states the VAT and the CIS deduction the right way round. Leave it off for ordinary domestic jobs.

Every estimate gets a quote reference, allocated for you from one running sequence for your business. The fitter name records who is doing the job.

When the fitter invoices the customer separately, the quote can still show their name and charge for the customer's benefit, without that money going through your books or your total.
