Set CIS deduction and the VAT reverse charge on a job
What does this do?
For commercial and subcontract work, tell PlanIt whether the job is under CIS and whether the VAT domestic reverse charge applies. The quote then states the VAT and the CIS deduction the right way round. Leave it off for ordinary domestic jobs.
How to use it
- Open 1 · Customer Details and scroll to CIS & VAT treatment.
- Tick Is this job subject to CIS? to reveal the questions below.
- Under Does the VAT Domestic Reverse Charge apply to this job? choose Yes – Reverse Charge, No – Normal VAT, Customer is an End User or Not sure. Read the note underneath: being a CIS job does not by itself mean reverse charge applies.
- Choose the CIS deduction rate: 0% (gross payment status), 20% (registered subcontractor), 30% (unverified subcontractor) or Custom rate… and type the percentage.
- In CIS-applicable labour & services, enter the labour and services element of the job, ex VAT. Materials are excluded from CIS by law, so leave them out.
- Carry on with the estimate. The quote shows VAT subject to Domestic Reverse Charge instead of adding VAT, and a CIS deduction at your rate, with a note explaining both.
