Most flooring estimating tools are aimed at someone else

Search for flooring estimating software and you'll mostly find commercial takeoff tools, built for contractors scaling measurements off digital drawings and sold through a demo call and an implementation project. That's a real job, but it isn't yours.

What takeoff software assumes

That you have a digital floor plan, that you're pricing a commercial contract, that measurement means tracing a PDF, and that you have time for onboarding. Fine for a main contractor. Useless in a carpet shop on a Saturday.

The roll cut optimiser is the bit that pays for itself

Carpet comes in fixed roll widths. Quote room by room and every room leaves its own offcut, and the customer pays for all of it.

A room 3.2m wide, cut from a 4m roll, leaves a strip 800mm wide running the full length of the cut. A typical domestic staircase is 800–900mm wide. Planned as one job, the stairs come out of carpet you have already had to buy. Planned room by room, that strip goes in the skip and the stairs get a fresh length of roll.

Do I need to install anything?
