How customers pay an invoice online
What does this do?
Customers can pay one invoice, the whole balance or any amount by card, or see your bank details for a transfer. What they are offered depends on what you have switched on under Customer payments.
How to use it
- Set up how you want to be paid first: Settings → Customer payments. Connect Stripe for card payments and/or turn on bank transfer with your sort code and account number or IBAN, then Save payment settings.
- What your customer does: they open Invoices, press an invoice to see the lines and totals, and press Pay this invoice. Paid invoices show Paid and have no pay button.
- For the whole account they open Payments (or press Pay balance on the Dashboard). Under Pay by card they choose Pay full balance, Pay a specific invoice, Pay a custom amount or Pay a deposit.
- Card payments open a secure Stripe checkout page. When it completes, the customer gets a Payment received notification and the payment appears in their Payment history.
- Paying by bank transfer: the Pay by bank transfer box shows your bank details. After sending the money the customer presses I've made a payment and types the amount and the reference they used.
- If neither Stripe nor bank transfer is switched on, the customer sees "Online payments aren't set up yet" and is asked to pay at the counter.
